President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, 16th April 2026, joined several African Heads of State and dignitaries in Brazzaville to witness the investiture of His Excellency Denis Sassou Nguesso as President of the Republic of Congo. The ceremony marked the formal commencement of President Sassou Nguesso’s new five-year term following his victory in the March 2026 presidential election.
The high-level ceremony, held in the Congolese capital, brought together leaders from across the continent, underscoring the importance of democratic continuity and regional engagement. President Sassou Nguesso secured re-election with a significant majority, extending his long-standing leadership of the Central African nation.
President Mahama’s participation reflects Ghana’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations within Africa, particularly with Central African states. His attendance also highlights Ghana’s active role in promoting cooperation, stability and shared development across the continent.
The President travelled to Brazzaville shortly after concluding official engagements in Ghana and returned to Accra following the ceremony, reaffirming Ghana’s dedication to both domestic priorities and regional diplomacy.
